DINNER ROLLS

1/2 cup warm water
1 tsp. white sugar
1 pkg. instant yeast

1/4 cup shortening (room temperature)
1/3 cup white sugar
1 unbeaten egg
1 1/2 cups water
5 cups unsifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder

Measure tsp. of sugar in water. Add yeast. Let stand 10 minutes. Stir down with spoon.
In a large bowl add shortening, sugar, egg, and water. Mix well. Stir in yeast mixture. Stir well. Add the dry ingredients in 4 amounts. Stir well. Turn dough out on board using only 1/4 cup more flour - but no more!. Knead. Put dough in medium greased bowl, flipping so the top is greased. Cover with saran. Put in refrigerator.

To Use: Flour hands. Punch dough down with saran. Make balls 1-2" in size. Put in greased cupcake pan - 3 in each space. Let rise 2 1/2 hours till double. Bake at 400 degrees 10-12 minutes.

These are great because you can just have them in your fridge and make them whenever!
