Non-Edible Cinnamon Ornaments These are really great for a crafty Christmas Tree and also to use as gift tags for presents. Just use a silver paint pen and write the persons name on the back of the ornament. The ornaments have a wonderful Christmas scent but, remember, they cant be eaten!
1 cup ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon ground cloves
1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
3/4 cup applesauce
2 tablespoons white glue
In a medium bowl, stir together the cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Mix in the applesauce and glue. Work the mixture with your hands 2 to 3 minutes to form a ball. If mixture is too wet, add more cinnamon. If mixture is too dry, add more applesauce.
Lightly dust a clean surface with cinnamon. Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters, and use a toothpick to make a hole at the top for hanging with a ribbon.
Dry in a slow oven 200 degrees F (100 degrees C) for several hours, or air dry in a sunny spot for 4 or 5 days. When dry, decorate with gingham and/or ribbon.

Andrea

These are great, healthy treats for the dog. My mom made them really crispy at Christmas and hung them on a small tree as ornaments and then had them available for the dogs.

2 cups quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup margarine, cut into pieces
4 beef or chicken bouillon cubes
2 cups boiling water
2 cups whole wheat flour
1-1/2 cups yellow cornmeal
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 cup skim milk
2 large eggs
2 cups grated cheese (optional)
2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray cookie sheets with nonstick cooking spray.

Measure oats into a medium bowl, top with pieces of margarine and the bouillon cubes. Pour in boiling water and let sit 10 minutes to dissolve the margarine and bouillon cubes. Mix well, then add whole wheat flour, cornmeal, sugar, milk, eggs and optional cheese. Add enough of the all purpose flour to make a stiff dough. Mix well, using hands if necessary.

Roll out dough. The thinner the dough, the crisper the baked treats will be. Use bone or cat shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies. Bake on prepared cookie sheets until hard, 5-15 minutes depending on how thin the dough is rolled. Remove from cookie sheets and cool completely.
